After finding a wallet and a watch, Chaplin's classic tramp is suspected of pickpocketing. Chased by both the police and the actual thief, he ends up in the middle of a circus performance, achieving immediate, involuntary comic success. With his second feature film The Circus, Charlie Chaplin won his first Oscar, for acting, screenplay, direction, and production. Today, nearly a century later, it is considered one of Chaplin's finest comedies.

Kjetil Schjander Luhr is a composer, pianist, and sound designer. In addition to his work for film, TV, and theater, he has been a regular silent film musician at the Cinematheque in Oslo since 2001, and a frequent guest at our Silent Film Days. Under Luhr's direction, the films are given a musical character that embraces both the musical clichés and inspirations of the 1920s, as well as styles and techniques from more recent film history. However, in Luhr's film musical universe, it is always the storytelling and the film's own premises that take precedence — the goal is to create a soundtrack that makes you forget the film is silent.
This screening is in collaboration with the Tromsø Children’s Film Society, and is free to all members.

Etter å ha funnet en lommebok og klokke, mistenkes Chaplins klassiske Landstryker for lommetyveri. Jaget av både politiet og den faktiske tyven havner han midt i en sirkusforestilling, og oppnår umiddelbar, ufrivillig komisk suksess. Med sin andre spillefilm Sirkus vant Charlie Chaplin sin første Oscar, både for skuespill, manus, regi og produksjon. I dag, snart et århundre senere, blir den ansett som en av Chaplins aller største komedier.
Musiker:
Kjetil Schjander Luhr er komponist, pianist og lyddesigner. I tillegg til arbeid for film, TV og teater har han vært fast stumfilmmusiker ved Cinemateket i Oslo siden 2001, og en hyppig gjest under våre Stumfilmdager i Tromsø. Under Luhrs ledelse får filmene en musikalsk drakt som favner både 20-tallets musikalske klisjeer og inspirasjon, så vel som stilarter og teknikker fra nyere filmhistorie. I Luhrs filmmusikalske univers er det likevel alltid historiefortellingen og filmens egne premisser som har forrang — målet er et lydspor som får deg til å glemme at filmen er stum.
Forestillingen er i regi av Tromsø Barnefilmklubb, og er gratis for medlemmer.
