Arrangementsinformasjon

Made to disturb rather than to please, Le Révélateur is a film that returns to the roots of cinema. Silent and without dialogue, it places full emphasis on visual storytelling. Shaped by the unrest and aftermath of the riots in France in 1968, director Philippe Garrel created an avant-garde work exploring the generational gap between a young couple and their small child.

The family appears to be fleeing from something through the dark forests of Germany, with an atmosphere that suggests war and surrounding conflict. Yet the central tension lies within the family itself. The parents struggle to find balance and peace, while the weight of responsibility seems almost unbearable. In contrast, the child seeks independence, while simultaneously attempting to “direct” the parents and assert control.

The narrative unfolds like a fragmented dream, resisting rational interpretation. The characters rarely touch one another, appearing alienated both from each other and from the landscape, with hope seemingly out of reach. The film was created through improvisation—there was no script and very little editing—further reinforcing its raw and disjointed quality.

The Music

Ekkoboks is a project started by Lars-Erik K. Mikkelsen to explore electronic music production. He composed and performed music for Cronenberg’s Stereo (1969) at Silent Film Days in 2024, organized by Tromsø Film Club. The project now also includes guitarist Lars Dalheim from the band Iran Mayen. This evening you can expect large soundscapes and intense sonic experiments in a dynamic landscape that shifts between structure and disorder.
